On Call

Friday night was my first night on call. I got to the hospital at 4pm, where we got report about a few ladies in for "rule out labor" and one who was waiting to be transferred to another hospital because she had low amniotic fluid and a breech positioned baby. So, we got things sorted out there, sent a few of the women outside to walk and see if their labor got any stronger. Sure enough, 2 women came back later in active labor, and so we admitted them and got them settled. At midnight one decided she was ready to start pushing, and less than an hour later we had a baby! The other one was ready to start pushing less than half an hour after we delivered the first, and by 2 am, we had the second! One boy, one girl, both beautiful. What a miracle life is! It is great to be able to participate in new birth.
