How Great is Our God part 1

As many of you know I'm at a training conference this week. I'm getting to meet with lots of brothers and sisters from around the world who are involved in the expansion of God's kingdom. I'm hoping to record a few of their stories for you here.

#1: A Modern Day Jonah

This man called himself a skeptic. He came to Christ as the result of being healed from a sickness. After coming to Christ, he started going to church. One day, someone in the church came up to him and told him they heard a word from the Lord: he was going to be a missionary.

Jonah didn't believe it, and never returned to that church. He found another church to attend, and after attending for a while, an elder in the church came up to him and told him the same thing: he was going to be a missionary.

Of course, he ran away again. He says he was at the third church for about a month when the pastor calls him from the pulpit to come and kneel at the front. The pastor says to him: from this day forward you will be a preacher of the gospel.

Jonah couldn't believe it. He had a fear of speaking in front of people, not to mention that this was the third time. His plan was to go home and never return to that church again. But at home he was convinced that he would be a fool not to listen to the apparent call of God on his life.

Meanwhile, the man's wife is the daughter of the most prominent witch doctor in her family's village. She is the only one of 25 children in the family to become a believer. One day her father threatened her that if she went to church, he would kill her with a knife. She said, ok, and went to church anyway. At church she asked the pastor to pray for her. Going home, she saw her father waiting outside with the knife. He said: "welcome home, my daughter! did you go to church and pray for us sinners here at home?" She never had another problem from him!

Soon after Jonah decided to follow God's call, an organization working among the unreached came to recruit for workers to go work among a tribe known for its hostility. The last workers there had their throats slit. Jonah signed up. He was joined by two others, and they went to the tribe. The first day he was there a young boy came to the faith, and now is a worker himself. Believers have experienced much persecution, but now 11 years later there are 7 churches among this tribe.
