Well, Christmas has come and gone...a bit hard to believe it is almost 2007. But, that's what I say every year. Some things never change.
This year, Christmas had some significant firsts:
- first Christmas in France
- first Christmas to celebrate with my team
- first time I've had Moroccan food for Christmas (and it was delicious!)
Also memorable was the fact that nearly everyone on the team was sick over Christmas with some cold virus. Those of us that weren't sick then, have now fallen, except for Rob, who remains the sole healthy member of the team.
So, after Christmas, Karen's family was still in town and looking for a bit of excitement. So...they decided one afternoon to go to Geneva for dinner, and kindly invited me along. So off to Geneva we went. A short drive, some nice old buildings, a beautiful lake, some good food; all in all a nice brief trip. Definitely a city worth re-visiting in the daylight.
The next day, since visiting Switzerland wasn't enough to satisfy our insatiable urge to visit new places, we headed off to Turino. More than two hours, 6 toll plazas, and 11 tunnels later, we finally arrived, hungry, cold and tired, only to discover that no one in Turino eats lunch at 4pm, and so therefore no restaurants will be serving anything substantial until at least 7:30. C'est la vie. But, we did find the Torino 2006 Olympics sign, which made it only partially worth the drive. Oh well, now we can add Italy to the list of countries visited. Hopefully I'll get back for a longer and more interesting visit while my sister is there studying this spring.
