Rainy days...

Rainy season has its ups and downs. Mosquitos and other bugs come out of the woodwork in droves. Some of the roads become so muddy they are impassable. Then there's the normally dry riverbeds that were once part of the road, and all of a sudden become gushing torrents that are impossible to cross. Onthe other hand, the temperature usually drops into the 80s and the dry, barren landscape miraculously turns green overnight. And then there are the rains themselves. There is nothing like a tropical rainstorm. The wind blows, the dust flies, the trees bend over almost double, thunder rumbles, the heavens open and torrents of water fall with a deafening patter on the tin roof.

This afternoon we had one of those storms. I had just finished making some bread and was letting it rise. Out my window I could see two teenage MKs from the center here running and laughing in the rain. I was so tempted to join them...then I thought, why not? Eleanor, Elijah, Silas, Annelise and Jocelyn came out too, and we had a great game of tag going. Then it was puddle splashing, and slip and slide in the mud. Soon surgeon Abi was out there with us. The rain slowed down to a drizzle, and Dr Roy and Jane stopped by to see the fun. Silas had discovered a mudhole 2 feet deep and everyone had to have a turn watching their leg disappear into the muck.

The proof is in the pictures...check out Steve's video.
